Life Beyond Death I Prep Materials

Pre Week 5

Topic: Shared Death Experience (SDE) and Deathbed Coincidences

For our next group we will be exploring the Shared Death Experience (SDE) and related phenomena such as Deathbed Coincidences.

The top priority for this session is getting familiar with the SDE.  Raymond Moody, MD coined the term Shared Death Experience and introduced the phenomena in his 2011 book, Glimpses of Eternity.

Unlike Dr. Raymond Moody’s book, Life After Life, that introduced NDE’s to the modern world and sold over 13 million copies; Glimpses of Eternity received a moderate reception even though the phenomena was recognized in American folklore, indigenous cultures and the modern hospice movement.

The Shared Crossing Project has been developing and teaching methods to facilitate the SDE for caregivers of the dying with remarkable success since 2012.

To enter into this material, I suggest reading the definition of the SDE from the Shared Crossing Project website. You may then continue to the bottom of that webpage and view video of the Dr. Raymond Moody interview with Paul Perry.

If you wish to learn more about the SDE go to Dr. Raymond Moody’s Talk on Shared Death Experiences: excerpt from IANDS 2011 Conference (15 min).  For an engaging in depth discussion of SDEs in relationship to NDEs, you may listen to an interview on Coast to Coast radio that features Dr. Raymond Moody and Dr. John Turner, a neurosurgeon. (This is a three part interview with each part being about 38 min.)

There is also an interesting article, Beyond Goodbye, CNN, by John Blake, that includes my work.

Finally there is an video interview of Pim Von Lommel, MD on Consciousness TV which is excellent if you have time.  Dr. Pim Von Lommel is a leading researcher on NDEs and consciousness. He is wonderful person. I had the opportunity to meet him in April, 2016 at the Afterlife Conference in St Louis where we both presented. In this piece Pim discusses interesting NDE cases and posits a persuasive view of consciousness as a non-local phenomena whereby the brain is a transmitter of consciousness rather than the producer of consciousness. This view can explain how NDE's, Deathbed Visions, Shared Death Experiences, Deathbed Coincidences, After-Death Communication, Mediumship, and other paranormal experiences occur. FYI, this view of the brain as a transmitter of consciousness rather than producer was also asserted by William James, father of American Psychology and Harvard Professor, and by Frederick Myers, Founder of London Society for Psychical Research both in late 1800's.
